Photographers: 5 signs your website is losing you clients
Let me set the scene:
You're a skilled photographer. Your work is stunnn, your edits are polished, and your passion is undeniable.
But... clients are ghosting.
Inquiries are inconsistent.
You’re getting compliments on your photos, but not enough bookings (and a girls gotta eat, am I right?)
If that sounds familiar, your website might be the silent reason clients aren’t converting.
Here’s how to tell — and what to do about it.
1. Your Website Doesn’t Show What Makes You Different
There are a lot of talented photographers out there. But the ones booking dream clients on repeat?
They’ve nailed their brand voice, vibe, and niche — and their website reflects that instantly.
My client Cara Davidson photography (case study HERE) came to me with the vision to be THE go-to film photographer in Edinburgh, and I worked with her to develop a brand and website that was UNMISTAKABLY HER. Why was that?
Well, if your homepage could belong to any photographer, it's a red flag. Your site should make visitors say:
"Wow, this is so [your name]. I want to work with them."
Tip: Use your about page, visuals, and copy to highlight your unique process, approach, and personality. Don’t be afraid to niche down or get specific.
2. Your Site Looks DIY (And Not in a Good Way)
Even if your work is professional, a cluttered or outdated website can send the wrong signal.
Potential clients might think:
“They’re not full-time yet”
“This feels unpolished”
“Can I trust them with a big day like my wedding?”
And in seconds, they click away — without ever seeing your best work.
Tip: Clean, modern design with intentional branding builds trust fast. Your website should feel like an extension of your photography style: thoughtful, beautiful, and professional.
3. You’re Not Guiding Them to Book
Your website isn’t just a gallery — it’s a client journey. If people can’t quickly figure out:
What you offer
How much it costs
How to reach out…
They’re gone. A pretty site isn’t enough — it needs strategy.
Tip: Use clear, bold calls to action like “Book Your Session” or “Inquire Now.” Don’t make visitors dig for pricing, info, or contact details.
4. Your Copy Is Generic or Confusing
If your website says things like:
“Capturing moments you’ll cherish forever”
“Creating memories that last a lifetime”
...you're blending in, not standing out.
Good copy connects. It sounds like you. It tells people exactly what to expect and why they should choose you over someone else.
Tip: Write like you speak. Let your personality shine. Use words that attract your ideal clients and filter out the rest.
5. It’s Not Optimized for Mobile or Speed
Most people are checking you out on their phone. If your site loads slowly, images take forever to appear, or the design breaks on mobile — you’re losing potential clients every single day.
Tip: Test your website on multiple devices. Use compressed images and a mobile-first layout to make sure your site feels effortless to use anywhere.
