Bullshit I'm not falling for

“You don’t have to do it all alone”

This statement suggests an element of choice that many people (especially when they are just starting out) don’t actually have.

If you need to be: logo designer, sales person, IT support and marketing guru while you grow the funds to invest in professionals... that’s ok, and more power to you.

“It’s not that people aren’t buying right now, it’s [insert something you’re doing wrong]”

You can be doing it all right (or as close as) and there will be plenty of things outside of your control:

Tariffs

Genocides

Pandemics

Etc.

It’s not always you.

“10K months should be the minimum you’re making.”

When the average UK income for a self employed person working alone is just under £50K... I have no idea where this number is coming from or where it got so popular to tout it, but this one especially I call bullshit on.

“Your Canva logo is losing you sales”

This is the kind of bullshit statement I’m guilty of - even though it’s true (ALL of these examples are true within the right context).

If you’re growing a brand your main focus when starting out should be:

nailing your audience

speaking to them in a way that resonates

engaging with them regularly

growing a community

The visuals can follow.
